Listening is the Most Powerful form of Acknowledgement .........a way of saying "You are Important"
My Advice:
The 1st thing I would say is Listen. The second thing...Listen, the 3rd thing.....Listen....And if you do people will begin to open up and talk to you. They'll always talk. Why? Because no one has ever taken the Time to listen to them before.
4 Tips for becoming a better listener:
Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you'll never get back. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your Time.
Investment through Empathy
This is where it all has to start. It may sound trite, but people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. The world is filled with hurting people, and people who truly care take the Time to Listen.
Investment through Encouragement
Sam Walton said, “Nothing else can quite substitute for a few well-chosen, well-timed, sincere words of praise. They’re absolutely free—and worth a fortune.”
To bring out a person’s full potential, we must learn to invest our Time through Encouragement.
Investment through Example
People are watching us. Sometimes we are aware of it, and sometimes we aren’t. But they are watching. When you are in the business of helping others, your time should be focused on those suffering not flaunting your success. "Do as I say.... not as I Do" is an easy trap to fall into.
As we learn to walk in the Spirit of Helping, and deny the lure of overindulgence in materialistic things, our influence on people will increase as we invest in them with our Time and through our Example.
The Social and Psychological effects of overcrowding are well documented and have been associated with increased depression and agression. Studies have suggested that social behavior is adversely affected when there are a higher density of individuals living within a space . Altruistic (Humane) behavior tends to decline as crowding increases. Under more crowded conditions, people are less likely to complete all of their tasks and experience higher anxiety and poorer mood. Higher anxiety and poorer mood, when dealing with individuals suffering from addiction, are precursors to RELAPSE.
Therefore, we believe in creating a spacious and supportive environment in which our residents can retain and strengthen their sobriety. The environment provided by Phoenix Transitional Living (PTL) allow individuals, suffering from addiction, to develop sober, clean living skills, and explore personal growth capabilities. With encouragement, guidance and new direction, residents are given the opportunity to heal, work to reach their maximum potential and gain a true sense of themselves.
PTL provides the lowest occupancy levels per home in the area. Spacious environment makes a difference.
